Republic of Texas

The Republic of Texas (demonym: Texan) is a new age community established in the ruins of the Fort Worth-Dallas Metroplex. It has expanded over several years to incorporate multiple states of land and is comprised of over 14 million people. The Republic was established in 2052 and its seat of government is the Dallas Municipal Building in Dallas. The new city hall built in 1978 was burned to the ground in the Great Dallas Riots. In 2073 it underwent a great insurrection and is now a liberated, democratic republic.

Economy

The economy of Texas is built upon agriculture and energy production -- wind farms all over the republic, especially the 15,000-acre wind farm in Jack County are sufficient for energy production for all powered homes and facilities in the metroplex. Texas is in possession of over 3 million acres of corn, grain, wheat, rice, peanuts, and sorghum. It also works another 4.5 million acres of cotton and 650,000 acres of ranches. The western half of the republic currently maintains approximately 92,000 gas wells located in the Barnett Shale play.

Military

The Texan Army is robust and varies in equipment. Pick-up trucks are mounted with heavy machine guns, while MRAPs, Strykers, and humvees carry the heavier mace of the armed forces. The spine of the military is composed of its M1 Abrams tanks, its shoulder-fired anti-air and anti-vehicle weaponry, re-purposed jet and prop aircraft, and its 100% volunteer body of personnel. Small arms range from pistols brought from home to double barrel shotguns to bolt action rifles to fully automatic assault rifles. National guard, local militias, and police forces almost exclusively ride on horseback, as do mostly all civilians. Gas is precious in Texas.

Government

The legislature of Texas is unicameral, with one senator representing each county. House legislature positions serve terms of 2 years and can be re-elected over and over again, same with the president. The president has far reaching executive powers, more so than the former United States presidential office.
